RCU Annual Sustainability Report 2024

“AlUla… a journey through time toward a sustainable future.” A legacy that bridges the past and the future, in one of the world’s most remarkable cultural and natural destinations.

Overview

The year 2024 marked a defining moment in AlUla’s journey, as RCU advanced its mission to protect cultural and natural heritage, empower the local community, and foster sustainable economic growth. Guided by Saudi Vision 2030, these efforts are shaping AlUla into a leading global destination where heritage and nature thrive together under a framework of responsible, sustainable development.

This report has been prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and highlights progress across four sustainability pillars: environmental, social, cultural, and economic.

Key Achievements

Economic Growth

  • AlUla welcomed 286,000 visitors in 2024
  • 628 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were actively operating across the county
  • 171,000 participants took part in the 2024 AlUla Dates Auction.

Natural Environment

  • 530,000 new trees and seedlings were planted across six nature reserves in AlUla, covering a combined area of 13,026 square meters
  • Five Arabian leopard cubs were born, and the Arabian Leopard Breeding Centre received accreditation from the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).
  • AlGharameel Reserve and AlUla Manara were certified by DarkSky International as the first official Dark Sky locations in the region.

Governance

  • Achieved a 97% transparency rating in administrative performance
  • Developed and updated more than 120 internal policies to enhance efficiency, accountability, and governance standards
  • Earned 11 international certifications in quality management, innovation, and cybersecurity
